NCRST and NAMPORT to Host Biggest Brainer Science Quiz Competition

13 Jun 2016

The National Commission on Research, Science and Technology (NCRST) will partner with the Namibia Ports Authority (Namport) for the hosting of the Biggest Brainer Science Quiz. The two institutions signed a sponsorship agreement that establishes a key partnership for the annual science competition.

Through this partnership NCRST and NAMPORT will jointly facilitate the NAMPORT Biggest Brainer Science Quiz Competition for High School learners across Namibia. The competition is also aimed at promoting public understanding of science, technology and innovation.

“We are pleased to sign this sponsorship agreement with the Namibian Port Authority because we believe that science, technology and innovation development is a long-term undertaking, which no Ministry or Agency can tackle alone. As citizens of Namibia, we hold equal responsibility for the growth of this nation to empower our youth with science and technology at all levels of education, as it plays a pivotal role in shaping their lives and careers which in turn will benefit our nation. The future of our nation is in their hands, and they can elevate our nation to more advanced levels than what it is today”, said Dr Diina Shuuluka, of the NCRST.

Speaking at the occasion, Mr Bisey /Uirab, Namport CEO, said, “The synergy was evident to team up with an impactful partner. The National Commission on Research, Science and Technology, is an engine of economic development and growth. Today we are here together to finalise an important agreement to roll out the Namport Biggest Brainer Science Quiz Competition which allows every high school learner to participate at free of charge. This will enable our Namibian Youth to utilise this platform to grow and prosper and learn about themselves and their potential career dreams. The fit between Namport and the NCRST to engage on a national platform to encourage High school going pupils to compete amongst themselves to motivate and inspire our Science leaders of tomorrow”.

The Science Quiz Competition, which is scheduled to take place during the NCRST Month of Science in September, provides innumerable benefits to learners, which encourage their educational and even social development.  Participation in a science quiz competition stimulates a learner’s interest in science and technology while simultaneously promoting the development of the skills such as communication, strategic thinking, team work, and lights the fire for knowledge.  A learner’s decision about study and career paths are primarily based upon interest in a particular field and on his/her perception of job prospects in that field. Positive contacts with science and technology at an early age can have a long-lasting impact.
