The National Commission on Research, Science and Technology (NCRST) is mandated to administer the Biosafety Act, 2006 (Act No. 7 of 2006), which provides for measures to regulate activities that involve the research & development, production, marketing, transportation, applications, and other uses of genetically modified organisms (GMOs) and specific products derived from these GMOs.

Biosafety Regulations that will support the implementation of the Biosafety Act, 2006 (Act No. 7 of 2006) were published in the Government Gazette No. 6116 under Government Notice No. 210 on 1 September 2016. These regulations will come into operation on 1 November 2016, as per Government Notice No. 232.

In order to build the capacity of individuals and institutions that will be involved in the implementation of the Biosafety Act, 2006 (Act No. 7 of 2006) the NCRST will be hosting a series of workshops in different regions. These workshops will give an overview of the Biosafety regulatory framework and Biosafety Procedures and Guidelines to stakeholders.

The NCRST herewith invites the public and affected stakeholders to participate in these workshops in the following regions:
