This morning (09 April 2018) the National Commission on Research, Science and Technology (NCRST) signed a monumental 3-year agreement with one of Africa’s leading specialists agencies, the African Biosafety Network of Expertise (ABNE).
ABNE is NEPAD agency and affiliated to the African Union. ABNE provides a resource network for African regulators and policy makers, to ensure the building of a functional Biosafety regulatory system in Africa. This ties in well with the NCRST’s mandate through the implementation of Namibia’s Biosafety Act 2006 (Act No. 7 of 2006).

To ensure that this agreement actually becomes a living document, both the NCRST and ABNE have dedicated teams of experts to form part of a Joint Technical Committee, that will set up a 3-year Action Plan and ensure the tasks and activities are undertaken and reported on.
