Job Grading: Paterson B2
 
Primary Purpose of the Position:
To plan and execute all Biotechnology laboratory tests, assess the integrity of test results against set standards and assist the Scientists in all related duties in order to improve productivity of the laboratory.
 
Key Performance Areas:
  • Conducts Biotechnology laboratory tests, e.g. DNA detection.
  • Maintain laboratory instruments and equipment on a regular basis.
  • Perform quality control in the laboratory and updates manuals as and when required.
  • Maintain desired housekeeping and hygiene standards of the laboratory, through constant and daily cleaning of the
  • laboratory and its equipment as well as the proper storage of all equipment and materials taking into account health and safety considerations.
  • Record all test results on the appropriate documentation and ensure all documentation are filed appropriately and securely.
  • Submit relevant information to superior for reporting purposes.
  • Initiate the procurement of materials and equipment as and when required.
  • Maintain inventory on laboratory supplies.
Minimum Qualification, Experience & Competence Requirement:
  • A relevant Science National Diploma (NQF Level 6), and at least two (2) years relevant laboratory working experience.
  • Good knowledge of laboratory techniques and standard operating procedures.
  • Must have Laboratory safety and quality assurance skills.
  • Candidate must be meticulous, systematic, organised, with excellent analytical skills and the ability to pay attention to detail.

This is a permanent appointment with a performance agreement.
