World Science Day for Peace and Development, commemorated annually on 10 November, serves as a global platform to emphasise the essential role of science in fostering peace, advancing sustainable development, promoting international collaboration, and building public trust in scientific knowledge. The Day not only underscores the value of science in addressing pressing challenges such as climate change, health, food security, and technological innovation, but also highlights its capacity to unite societies in pursuit of common goals.

For Namibia, the Day presents an important opportunity to reflect on the country’s progress in harnessing science, technology, and innovation (STI) for national development, while reaffirming the commitment to align with global priorities. It also provides a platform to inspire learners, empower researchers, and engage communities in dialogues that strengthen the culture of science and innovation.

In this context, the National Commission on Research, Science and Technology (NCRST), as the custodian and driver of STI in Namibia, is uniquely positioned to lead the commemoration. Celebrating the Day offers NCRST the chance to reaffirm its leadership, deepen collaboration with strategic partners, and foster greater public appreciation of science as a tool for peace and progress.

This proposal, therefore, outlines a range of activities through strategic partnerships, innovative activities, and inclusive public engagement initiatives to ensure that the commemoration of World Science Day for Peace and Development in Namibia meaningfully highlights the transformative power of science in addressing both national and global challenges.
