CALL FOR APPLICATIONS
Applications for full-time postgraduate scholarships in STEM for the 2026 academic year. The call aims to build a strong pipeline of talent in STEM and modelling methods, producing graduates whose work is directly applicable to Namibia’s development priorities and measurable national value.
OBJECTIVES
• Support masters and PhD training in critical STEM fields
• Strengthen modeling and data-driven problem solving
• Enable timely degree completion within the funding window
• Produce high-quality outputs such as peer-reviewed articles, datasets or code repositories, policy briefs and demonstrators
• Strengthen pathways into academia, public research, industry and start-ups
• Support participation in regional and global STEM networks
• Enable structured research assistantship placement at NCRST during the years of study
Masters stream
Two awards in Mathematical Modelling and Data Modelling, with a clear application
Priority areas should include application areas such as policy and governance modelling, macroeconomic and industry modelling, climate and water modelling, epidemiology and health systems modelling, learning analytics, infrastructure optimisation, agricultural and food security modelling, and disaster risk and safety forecasting.
PhD stream
One award in any relevant STEM discipline that addresses Namibia’s socio-economic development
needs.
Applicants must
1. Be Namibian citizens or permanent residents
2. Be full-time and hold provisional admission or a recognised Namibian university
3. Meet strong academic performance expectations or present clear evidence of research excellence
4. Submit a STEM-focused research plan addressing a nationally relevant challenge
5. Provide a supervisor support letter and two referee reports
6. For PhD Programme, demonstrate research readiness and submit a feasible three-year work plan.
FUNDING PACKAGE AND DURATION
The scholarship covers tuition, stipend, research support, and mobility, within the approved annual ceiling, under disbursement modalities confirmed in the award agreement, in consultation with the host
